ABOUT DR. DAVID AMID

Dr. David Amid was born in Tehran, Iran, moved to Canada when he was 5, and Los Angeles, California for his senior year of high school. After high school, he attended UCLA, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Dr. Amid graduated with Departmental Honors and earned an Honor's Research thesis.

A major highlight of his undergraduate career was doing research in bacterial pathogenesis and publishing peer reviewed article regarding this research. After graduation, Dr. Amid worked for a biotechnology company, Amgen, as a research associate. He later spent time as a middle school teacher, teaching health and sciences to seventh and eighth graders. Dr. Amid attended UCLA School of Dentistry and earned a DDS in 2002 and received his certificate in Periodontics from the USC School of Dentistry in 2005. Since then, Dr. Amid has been working in private practice all throughout Southern and Northern California.

Dr. Amid was asked to come back to teaching as a USC graduate and taught at USC as an Adjunct Clinical Professor for 9 years (2005-2014).

2015, Dr. Amid decided to remain in the Bay Area by establishing a private practice in Milpitas after having fallen in love with the lifestyle the Bay Area had to offer.

Dr. Amid believes that the periodontist's role is to save the original teeth “above all else.” In keeping with this belief, he believes that regenerative periodontal therapy is a big part of treatment — bone grafting and soft tissue grafting. “When teeth are lost… dental implants are a great step forward and solution for my patients in order to optimizing their oral health and overall wellness.”

When Dr. Amid is not practicing, he also enjoys tennis, spending time with friends and family, going on hikes, long drives and trying out new restaurants and frequenting personal favorites.

FAQ

FAQ
Cavity Check

DO I NEED TO VISIT A PERIODONTIST?

You may need to visit a periodontist if you have gum disease or other periodontal complications that are untreatable by your general dentist.

Let us know immediately if you are experiencing red or swollen gums, or if you have pockets that have formed between your gums and teeth. This could be a sign of periodontal disease or periodontitis, for which your dentist may refer you to a periodontist for treatment.

If you are unsure of whether you have periodontal disease ask your dentist or periodontist to check for you. Like high blood pressure and diabetes, gum disease often does not have any symptoms until it becomes very serious.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY PERIODONTAL VISIT WITH DR. AMID?

Your first periodontal visit will require a complete dental and medical background review, as well as information about your current symptoms and medications.

You’ll undergo an examination, during which time Dr. Amid will inspect your gums and teeth for signs of disease or health.

Dr. Amid will then discuss your diagnosis and your options for treatment if necessary.

WILL I NEED TO HAVE TREATMENT AFTER MY INITIAL VISIT?

There are many reasons for undergoing periodontal treatment – most commonly for the treatment of gum disease or replacement of missing teeth.

Both surgical and non-surgical treatments are available, but only your periodontist can tell you which type is right for you.
